Courthouse on the Haunted Hill

More tales of spooky courthouses!

In 1903, a devastating and deadly flood ravaged the town of Heppner, Oregon. Now the spirits reportedly haunt the Morrow County Courthouse, a senior residence, and other buildings. See The Haunting of Heppner: Do Flood-Era Ghosts Walk the Halls? Erin Mills, East Oregonian (October 31, 2009).

Some judges just don't know what to do with themselves when they retire. Judge John Ross of Cochise County, Arizona, may be one such judge. He allegedly wanders around the courthouse in Bisbee. Judge Ross died in 1945. See Stories of Courthouse Ghost in Bisbee, Nicole McGregor, Arizona Central (October 29, 2009).

A true tale of murder and lynching shadows the Weld County Courthouse's past. But did the terror stay in the past? Courthouse staff have experienced mysteriously locked doors, inexplicably flickering lights, and other eeriness. See The Haunted Courthouse, Greeley Tribune (October 30, 2009). A psychic was brought in to inspect the site (what part of the budget covers that, we wonder?) The psychic found a creepy guy named Charles living in a grandfather clock, souls in the attic, a little boy named Jonathan (perhaps they should build a childrens' waiting room for him), a nice-smelling lady in a hat, and an old lady named Margaret whose hobby is riding the elevator. See Greeley's Courthouse Delivers Ghostly Frights, Mike Peters, Greeley Tribune (October 31, 2009).

Bonus fun: name the most common Halloween costumes for kids and adults from 2008!
