Hopi Mediation
Posted in Tribal on Sunday January 06 2008 @ 6:27pm
Nakwatsvewat is Hopi for resolving conflict peacefully. So, it is the perfect name for a new Hopi mediation group: The Nakwatsvewat Institute.
The program received a $300,000 grant over three years from the Administration for Native Americans. According to the grants page, the project will include training, administration, and implementation.
The program aims to be a mix of western mediation and Hopi tradition. The idea came from the late Chief Justice of the Hopi Appellate Court, Emory Sekaquaptewa. Other reservations may use the program as a model in the future.
