You Can Pick Your Friends: Judicial Selection in Ohio
Posted in Judges on Thursday May 15 2008 @ 9:52pm
Today we walked up Clifton hill to UC to catch a town hall meeting on judicial selection.
The local League of Women Voters and the League's imPACT program put the meeting together. What a great group of people! Truly a microcosm: students (both there for credit, and just for kicks), academics, interested citizens, a former judge, and even a blogger.
The afternoon began with Charles Gibson! A showing of an ABC News segment entitled "Coal Crackdown in West Virginia," about judicial elections in West Virginia, gave us a worst-case scenario to ponder.
By the way, West Virginia's much-maligned former chief lost his bid for re-election earlier this week. See Controversial State Judge Loses Bid, Maddy Sauer, ABC News (May 14, 2008).
Guest speakers Michael Solimine (rhymes with "genie") from UC Law, Williams Woods of Common Cause Ohio, and Kathy King.
